Default Consistant Lag Spikes in Town?

Is anyone else getting non-stop lag spikes in town? I can't go for more than 30 seconds in any town without getting a spike.

This is really annoying, because I can't talk, move, accept/finish quests. It took me over 15 minutes just to walk out of Maatu Keep because I had to wait for each lag spike to pass.

When I'm in an instanced map, I'm fine though...

Guildwars as a whole has become more laggy, and more cpu intensive especially with the new graphics. Its kind of annoying and i wish A-net would fix it too, i think their servers are getting overloaded by hosting factions and incoming flux of players.

you can do everything you want during these dead periods, even though it doesn't look like it on your end it will register on the server, so just make the game trace the way to where you want to go, click sell on what you wanna sell to the merchant, doesn't work with traders though (anywhere you have to request quoe first)

and no, i don't have problems with lag normally

This must be what playing WoW is like on crap servers.

Hope it just gets better, but on my side i have a bigger problem, I get more net error 7s, and sometimes i could get dropped within 5 mins of logging on.

I agree...the lag is getting unbearable at this point. Faction is turning out be one big pile of poop. The game sucks and on top of that, you're lagging constantly. Way to go Anet.

I've gotten around the lag issue by changing to the International Districts.

Zero lag in towns (but nobody plays there - not an issue for me, since I rarely play with people, even people from the guild I joined...)

I've only actually noticed lag in Maatu Keep, and like another poster said, you can keep clicking, the game recognizes it, it just takes a second or 4 to register on your end.

I must be one of the lucky ones then since I do not experience any lag in towns. I did encounter 2 err7s yesterday but the person I was playing with didn't get disconnected. This was at the crystal desert with my assassin.

Edit: Seems I should take back what I said. I went to House Zu Heltzer yesterday and it was pretty bad. High frame rates but kept getting stuck in one spot. It was just this town however, all the other towns I went to were fine.

I've been getting more lag in town as well, but the one that gets me upset is the lag I get when I step out of town. Every first fight in any area is just a fight with lag, my health bar shows one amout, while the party bar shows another, and I can't do anything until half the group is dead.

I've noticed a general increase in in-town lag since at least the Wintersday event... seems the more Anet adds to GW (graphics+content), the more in-town lag there is. I hit a huge spike the other day in one of the Ring of Fire mission towns - could barely move, and couldn't turn using the keyboard..

Here's an "Official" response from ANET's "glorious" Tech support...

Response (Scott) 05/07/2006 04:17 PM
Hello,

I'd like you to flush your DNS. To do this, click on Start and go to Run. In the run line, type in cmd and hit enter. This brings up the DOS prompt. In the first line, type

ipconfig /flushdns

and hit enter.

Please unplug the modem for at least 30 seconds to ensure that its resets.

Reboot the computer.

Once this is completed, go ahead and try running the game. If it doesn't work, try flushing your DNS again. Go through these steps a few times. If you are still unable to connect, please reply to this e-mail. Thank you!

Regards,
Guild Wars Tech Support

I like Factions. Fortunately with GW and GW Factions, when I get lag in one town or area, I can go to another. I always have at least a few objectives to do next and usually at least one of them won't have any lag. Of course there shouldn't be lag anywhere at any time. We should expect no less. Hopefully it will be like that soon.

I'd like you to flush your pride and set up a second damn server.

Anet is kidding itself if it thinks it can continue running one server after introducing a new game.

I experienced this too and again I comment..I have posted in a couple of other treads. There seems to be a router provider issue happening. Contact GW support team and do a ping/trace test that they ask you to do. Some router server in the states someplce in the east is giving us grief! If more ppl do this test, I am sure they will be able to track the exact server down and rectify the ongoing problem.

Well it appears they have fixed the lag at House Zu Heltzer. It's now lag-free for me even if it's as crowded as ever...
